Son of Thomas and Emma M. Hawley, of 7, Cambria Grove, Cranmer Street, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham on 19th November 1915 and went to France on 29th March 1916. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 28, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
