Born at North Wingfield, Derbyshire. Son of John and Ann Hawkins, of North Wingfield, Chesterfield, Derbyshire; Husband of Jane Hawkins, of 149, Speedwell Row, Grassmoor, Chesterfield. He was a coal miner at North Winfield Colliery, Derbyshire prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He was killed in action, 15th October 1916, aged 32, during the attack near Gueudecourt, France.
