Son of Joseph and Priscilla Hatfield, of 14, Privilege Street, Wortley, Leeds. Went to France on 27th August 1915. Killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 35, during the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried: Serre Road Cemetery No.2, France. Plot XXIX, Row M, Grave 11.
