Corporal Alfred William Hartley

Battalion: 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Acton, Middlesex and lived at 20 Clowne Road, Stanfree, Derbyshire. Son of Mrs Annie Goody, of 30 Clowne Road, Stanfree. He was a screen hand at Oxcroft Colliery Company, Bolsover, Derbyshire, prior to enlisting on 15th March 1913 at Worksop, Nottinghamshire. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 2nd December 1917 and was transferred to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 13th December 1917. He went to France on 20th December 1917 and was promoted to Corporal on 28th January 1918. He was killed in action, on 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
