Born in Nottingham and lived at Sneinton, Nottingham. Son of George and Amelia Hart, of 63, Henry Street, Sneinton. He was a chimney sweep prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 18th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 24, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried: Gommecourt Wood New Cemetery, Foncquevillers, France. Plot 2, Row C, Grave 11.
