Born at Nottingham and lived at 16, Needham’s Avenue, Thorneywood Lane, Nottingham. Son of Philip and Elizabeth Hanford. He was a shop assistant prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, aged 20, in the attack on the German line at Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
