Born and lived at Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire. Son of John and Frances Hancock, of Town End, Stoney Middleton. He enlisted at Bakewell, Derbyshire and was killed in action, on 19th August 1917, in the attack on the Knoll/Lempire, France.

Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
