Lived at Belper, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Emily Hallam, of 37, Short Rows, Green Lane, Belper. He was Stove Grate Painter prior to enlisting on 7th November 1914. He went to France on 26th June 1915 and was admitted to the 10th Casualty Clearing Station, Remy Sidings, Lijssenthoek, Belgium, on 15th September 1915 suffering from Scabies. He was transferred to the 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, France, on 23rd September 1915 and then sent to England on 18th October 1915. He returned to France on 13th May 1916 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 20, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
