British War and Victory MedalHe was born at Manchester. Son of Harry and Rose Emma Grundy, of 99, Rosetta Road, Basford, Nottingham. He lived at 57 Gawthorne Street, Basford. He was a brewers labourer prior to enlisting into the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 27th May 1915 at Nottingham.

He went to France 6th March 1916 and was taken ill and admitted to 133rd Field Ambulance 30th May 1916. He was transferred to the 2nd London Casualty Clearing Station 31st May 1916 and then to the 1st Canadian General Hospital at Etaples 26th June 1916 where he was diagnosed with disordered action of the heart. He was then sent back to England 29th June 1916 via hospital ship New Haven and was admitted to the County of London Royal Hospital, Epsom 30th June and remained there until the 6th October 1916. He was posted to the 3rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment whilst still in England, 28th March 1917, then posted to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 9th May 1917 and returned to France 16th May 1917.

He was appointed Lance Corporal 24th August 1917. He suffered gunshot wounds to his right arm, leg and ankle and died of the wounds, 27th November 1917, at Camieres, France.
