Son of Frederick and Ann Helen Greenfield, of 43, New Street, St. Georges, Wellington, Salop, Shropshire. He was a Brickmaker’s Labourer prior to enlisting 9th November 1914 at Shrewsbury. Was posted 2/4th Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, 10th November 1914. was appointed Lance Corporal 26th June 1915 and promoted Corporal 20th September 1915. He went to France 30th March 1918 and was transferred to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 9th April 1918. He was killed in action, 22nd April 1918, during the attack at Aveluy Wood, France.
