He lived at 65 Salisbury Street, Radford, Nottingham. Husband of Catherine Green, of 4, Alfred Square, Alfred Street, Radford, Nottingham. He was a Wood Sawyer prior to enlisting into the 19th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 9th December 1915 at Nottingham. He was posted to the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France on 2nd August 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his chest on 3rd September 1916 and was sent to 16th General Hospital, Le Treport, France. On recovery, he was transferred to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and joined them on the 30th September 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his knee on 24th January 1917 and died, on 16th February 1917, aged 22, after amputation at St. John’s Ambulance Hospital, Etaples, France.
