Born in Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of Ernest George Goodwin, of Gilkin View, Wirksworth. He lived at 35 Coldwell Street, Wirksworth. Husband of Emma Goodwin, of 17, Adrian Street, Derby. He was a cotton tape weaver prior to enlisting at Wirksworth and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 29, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)the German attack at Mory L’Abbaye, France.
