Born in Buxton, Derbyshire and lived at Burbage, Derbyshire. Son of William and Elizabeth Goodwin, of 3, Rosebank Cottages, Green Lane, Burbage, Buxton, Derbyshire. He was a clerk for Buxton Lime Firms Limited prior to enlisting at Buxton. He went to France on 23rd December 1915 and was killed in action, on 4th July 1916, aged 19, in support of the attack near Fricourt, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
