Battalion: 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Blidworth, Nottinghamshire. Son of Edward and Mary A. Godfrey, of Ashwell Terrace, Blidworth. He was a coal miner at Rufford Colliery, Nottinghamshire prior to enlisting on 26th August 1914 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France on 15th December 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
