Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Fernilee, Derbyshire and lived at Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel and Mary Goddard of Macclesfield Road, Whaley Bridge. He was a coal waggoner prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France on 8th September 1914 and was killed in action on 20th October 1914, when the battalion held position south-east of Bois Grenier, Ennetieres/Escobecques, France against a German attack.
