Born at Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire 7th April 1893. Son of Rev. James Given, M.A., LL.D. (St. Saviours, Nottingham), and Mrs Susan W. Given, of 2, Kingston Rd., West Bridgford, Nottingham. Lived at West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Nottingham High School and was in the employment of Thomas Adams Ltd., lace manufacturers, Nottingham. He served in Ireland from 25th April 1916 then went to France on 26th February 1917. Was awarded the Military Medal. London Gazette 26th September 1917, ” For conspicuous gallantry and for saving lives under heavy bombardment.” He took part in the fighting at Bullecourt, was taken prisoner on 21st March 1918 and died 17th May 1918, aged 25 at Denain Military Hospital, France of dysentery.
