Born at Beeston, Nottinghamshire and lived at Old Lenton, Nottingham. Son of Frederick and Sarah Giles, of 15, Warwick Street, Old Lenton. He was a Telephone Hand prior to enlisting 13th August 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France 20th July 1915 and suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm and left leg 15th October 1916. He died of these wounds, 17th October 1916, aged 20, at the 2/2nd London Casualty Clearing Station at Meaulte, France.
