Born At Brinsley, Nottinghamshire. Son of Mrs Catherine Gilbourne, of 23, Nethergreen, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. Was a miner. Enlisted 29th March 1915 at Derby and went to France 10th November 1915. He suffered a gunshot wound to his chest on 1st July 1916 at Gommecourt on the Somme and was taken to the 20th Casualty Clearing Station, then to No. 61 General Hospital. He was then transferred to England and died from his wounds on 16th July 1916, aged 22 at the University War Hospital, Southampton.
Buried: Brinsley (St. James The Great) Churchyard, Nottinghamshire. United Kingdom. Old ground, near West wall.
His brother Gunner William Thomas Gilbourne Royal Garrison Artillery also died in the Great War.
