Born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Samuel Fletcher Gibbons, of 3 Silk Mill Yard, Chesterfield. He was a Store Porter prior to enlisting on 15th August 1914 at Chesterfield. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
