Born Westhouses, Derbyshire. Son of George and Ann Gent of 67 Prospect Street, Alfreton, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 24th February 1915 at Alfreton He went to France on 10th December 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 22, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
