Corporal Alfred Gent

Battalion: 1/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Harry and Eliza Gent, of 24 Valley Road, Spital, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner at Bondsman’s Colliery prior to enlisting, 5th December 1910 at Chesterfield. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was promoted to Corporal, 22nd March 1915. He was killed in action, 23rd July 1915, by German shellfire, whilst sheltering in a dugout near Sanctuary Wood, Belgium.
