Husband of Lillian Louisa Gazeley, of 16, Grove Place, Bedford. He was a Labourer prior to enlisting on 17th November 1914 at Bedford. He was posted to the 3rd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment on 21st November 1914 and went to France on 3rd November 1915. He was admitted to No.8 General Hospital at Rouen suffering from Shellshock, on 27th July 1916. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Asturius, on 31st July 1916. He returned to France on 14th June 1917 and suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen on 5th October 1917. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Andrew on 10th October 1917. He returned to France on 5th April 1918, was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 7th April 1918 and was killed in action, on 21st April 1918, during the counter-attack at Mesnil, France.
