Born and lived Doveridge, Derbyshire. Husband of Fanny Gaunt, of Church Street, Doveridge. He was farm waggoner prior to enlisting at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. He was killed in action, 20th September 1917, aged 39, during the attack on Bulgar Wood, Belgium.

Buried: Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 63. Row H. Grave 7.
