Son of Albert and Emma Garfield, of 50, Church Vale, West Bromwich. He was a labourer and enlisted into the South Staffordshire Regiment at West Bromwich 17th May 1915. He went to France 16th May 1916. He was transferred to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 12th July 1916. He was awarded the M.M. London Gazette 16th August 1917 ‘ For gallantry and devotion to duty when in the attack on the enemy positions at Messine Ridge, on 7th June 1917″ Went to Italy 9th November 1917. Was killed in action 5th October 1918, age 26 at Guizancourt Farm, near Bearevoir, France.
