Lance Sergeant Albert Gale

Born at Thrupston, Northamptonshire. Son of Samuel and Sarah Gale, of Mount Pleasant, Sunday Houses, Derbyshire. Husband of Winifred Kathlyn Higgs (formerly Gale), of 42, Bore Street, Lichfield, Staffordshire. He was a Collier prior to enlisting 31st August 1914 at a Derby. He was posted to the 13th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 31st October 1914 and was appointed Lance Corporal 5th November 1914. He was promoted Corporal 1st February 1915 and appointed Lance Sergeant 8th September 1915. He went to France 5th January 1916 and was posted to the 12th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 7th January 1916. He was killed in action, 12th January 1917, whilst working on the repair of trenches near Loos, France.
