Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Eckington, Derbyshire, Son of James and Minnie Fretwell, of 24, Morris Street, Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Husband of Lily Fretwell. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Served in Gallipoli in 1915 and was killed in action, on 26th September 1916, in the attack on the German lines near Ovillers during the Battle of the Somme.
