Private Robert George French

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Little Chesterford, Essex. Son of George and Emily French, of Malting Farm, Little Chesterford, Essex. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting on 26th October 1909 at Cambridge. He went to France on 11th November 1914 and was admitted to No. 14 General Hospital Boulogne, suffering from hypothermia, on 10th January 1915. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick, on 11th January 1915. He returned to France on 2nd May 1915 and was wounded on 5th July 1916, in the attack at La Boisselle, France, during the Battle of the Somme. He died of wounds at 76th Field Ambulance on 7th July 1916.
