Born in Nottingham and lived at 4, Clifton Street, Nottingham. Son of Joseph and Ellen Freestone, of 60, Leicester Street, St. Anns, Nottingham. Husband of Ada Freestone. He was a lace threader prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
