Private George Ernest Fox

Battalion: 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of Alfred and Helen Fox, of 69, Derby Road, Nottingham. Employed by General Post Office, York, prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 20, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
Commemorated: Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
