Battalion : Commanding 1st/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Son of George Fowler, of Basford Hall, Basford, Nottingham. Husband of Mrs Fowler, of 24, Low Pavement, Nottingham. Commissioned 4th Volunteer Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment as Lieutenant 26th June 1901. He was promoted Captain 24th January 1903 and posted to the 8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 1908. He was promoted to Major 9th December 1912 and Lieutenant Colonel 19th February 1915. He went to France on 1st March 1915 and was killed in action by a sniper, 15th October 1915, at the Hohenzollern Redoubt, at Auchy-les-Mines, near Loos, France whilst attempting to rescue Major Becher, who was severely wounded 30 yards away from the German lines.
