Born and lived at South Normanton, Derbyshire. Son of John and Elizabeth Foulkes, of Brickyard Lane, South Normanton, Derbyshire. Husband of Dora Foulkes, of 3, Lambert Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a coal miner (pony driver) prior to enlisting at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He was killed in action, 1st August 1916, in a raid on the German trenches near Givenchy, France.
