Born at Belper, Derbyshire. Son of John William and Elizabeth of Derby Road, Kilburn, Derby. Husband of Elizabeth Foulkes, of Derby Road, Kilburn, Derbyshire. Was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Derby 25th May 1915. He went to France 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 9th October 1916, during the attack on the Schwaben Redoubt, near Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
