Son of Edward James and Mary Foulds, of 63, Sandy Lane, Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Lillie Foulds, of 54, Sandy Lane, Worksop. He was a Joiner prior to enlisting 5th December 1914 at Worksop. He was posted to the 3rd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 18th December 1914 and went to France 4th January 1915. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 24th March 1915. He was admitted to No. 50 Casualty Clearing Station at Hazebrouck, France suffering from Myalgia, 2nd October 1915. He was transferred to the 25th General Hospital, Camieres, France 4th October 1915 and sent to England on Hospital Ship Antwerpen 15th October 1915. He was returned to France 10th February 1916 and was killed in action, 23rd August 1916, when the Germans shelled the trenches at Beaumont Hamel, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
