Born and lived at Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire. Son of George and Patience Eliza Ford, of Hemp Yard, Kirk Ireton. Was a General Labourer prior to enlisting at Kirk Ireton. He went to France on 18th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 24, during the attack on Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried: Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, France. Plot I, Row L. Grave 29.
