Born at Tannington, Suffolk. Lived at Fletcher Street, Heanor, Derbyshire. Was a coalman. Enlisted at Nottingham 1st June 1915. Went to France on 6th March 1916, was appointed Lance Corporal on 27th September 1915 and promoted Corporal on 22nd May 1916. He was a stretcher-bearer from 24th June 1915. He was killed in action on 31st July 1917.
