Private William Fletcher

Battalion: 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Basford, Nottingham and lived at 21, Browns Croft, Old Basford, Nottingham. Son of Edward and Eliza Fletcher. He was a lace factory hand prior to enlisting on 1st December 1911 at Nottingham. He went to France on 25th February 1915 and was selected for the Brigade Mining Section on 18th May 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
