Born at Beeston, Nottinghamshire. Son of Mrs Catherine Fines, of 20, Butler Street, Radford, Nottingham. Husband of Lily Fines. Lived at 68 Salisbury Street, Old Radford, Nottingham. He was a packer at Raleigh Cycle Company prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France 28th August 1915 and was killed in action, 19th September 1916, by German shellfire whilst serving in Constance Trench, South of Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
