British 1914 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn at Darley, Derbyshire and lived at Matlock, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Elizabeth Fentem, of Underwood Terrace, Smedley Street, Matlock. He was a gardener’s labourer prior to enlisting 7th January 1907 at Matlock. He served in India from 5th January 1909 to 20th September 1913. He went to France 11th November 1914 and was appointed Lance Corporal, 10th April 1915. He was killed in action, 19th June 1915.  by shellfire whilst serving in the line near La Gorgue, France.
