Born and lived at Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Son of Francis William and Sarah Ann Etherington, of Compton Street, Ashbourne. He was a Carter prior to enlisting at Ashbourne. He was killed in action, 25th October 1917, age 30, whilst serving in the line at Hill 70, near Mazingarbe, France.
