Born at Derby and lived at Carlton, Nottingham. Son of Levi and Emma Etches, of 79, Foxhill Lane, Carlton, Nottingham. He was a packer in a cotton mill prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, 11th April 1916, aged 20, whilst in the line near Annequin, France.
