Born and lived at Pye Bridge, Alfreton, Derbyshire. He was a clerk at Babbington Colliery prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to Gallipoli 6the September 1915, then Egypt and went to France July 1916. He was killed in action, 26th September 1916, in the attack on the German positions near Ovillers France, during the Battle of the Somme.
