Born at Stonegravels, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Sarah Jane Ellis. of 9, Brockwell Terrace, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Chesterfield, went to France 25th February 1915 and he was killed in action 19th September 1915, age 21, by a German shell burst whilst tending the wounded.
