Born in Nottingham and lived at 18, Royal Oak Hill, Carlton Road, Nottingham. Husband of Mary Ann Ellis. He enlisted at Nottingham and went to France on 28th June 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
