Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Son of John Robert and Betsy Elam, of 24, Northgate, Louth, Lincolnshire. He was a porter with the Great Northern Railway prior to enlisting 10th December 1915 at Louth. He was posted to the 11th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, 14th May 1916 and to the 15th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, 6th February 1917. He was transferred to the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 1st March 1917 posted to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 18th March 1917. He was killed in action whilst working on railway construction near Ypres, Belgium, 27th October 1917, aged 20.
