Son of Thomas Hughes Earle M.A. of Enham Place, Andover. He was educated at Eton. He received his commission as Second Lieutenant 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) 18th August 1909, and was promoted Lieutenant 17th May 1911. In September, 1913, he was seconded to the West African Force and he was serving with the Gold Cost Regiment at the outbreak of the war. He went with his regiment to the Cameroon’s, where he was killed in action, 20th June 1915, and was buried at Ngew.
