Born and lived at Bingham, Nottinghamshire. Son of Joseph and Annie Dunsmore, of Spring Gardens, Bingham, Nottinghamshire. He was a railway porter prior to enlisting on 18th May 1915 into the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.art Mansfields, Nottinghamshire. Went to France on 6th March 1916 and suffered shrapnel wounds to his foot on 3rd September 1916. He was treated at 4 General Hospital, Cammiereds, 4th September 1916 and transferred to England on H.S. Stad Antwerpen, 7th September 1916. He returned to >France 31st December 1916 and was posted to the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. 1st January 1917. He suffered gunshot wounds to his left hand on 19th August 1917 and infected Boils on 16th September 1917. He was treated at 12 Canadian Hospital, Rouen. He was transferred to England on H.S. Grantully Castle, on 24th September 1917. H e was posted to the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and returned to France on 9th January 1918. He was posted to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment on 14th January 1918 and was admitted to 2/2 North Midland Field Ambulance on 29th January 1918, suffering from conjunctivitis. He was treated at 6 Stationary Hospital, Frevant, and rejoined his battalion 3rd February 1918 he was killed in action on 21st March 1918, aged 24, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France, on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlacht)
