Born and lived at Staveley, Derbyshire. Husband of Annie Elizabeth Barker (formerly Dunn), of 16, Hartington Cottages, Staveley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting on 5th November 1914 at Chesterfield. He went to France on 20th June 1916 and was promoted to Corporal on 8th August 1916. He was mentioned in Despatches of the Commander in Chief of the British Army (Douglas Haig) London Gazette, 19th April 1917. He received a gunshot wound to his right shoulder on 19th June 1917 and rejoined his battalion on the 23rd of June 1917. He died of wounds on 3rd July 1917, aged 23.
