Son of Jonathan and Elizabeth, Duckmanton, He was a professional soldier having enlisted <december 1904 at Derby He served in India and he went to France on 8th September 1914 and was killed in action on 20th October 1914, when the battalion held position south-east of Bois Grenier, Ennetieres/Escobecques, France against a German attack.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission show the 1st Battalion.
