British War and Victory MedalBorn at Welton, Lincolnshire. Son of Harry and Eva Dowman, of “The Gables,” Branston, Lincoln, Lincolnshire. He was a General Labourer prior to enlisting into the 51st Training Battalion on the 8th March 1917 at Grantham, Lincolnshire. He went to France 24th March 1918 and was transferred to the 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 29th March 1918. He was appointed Lance Corporal 8th April 1918 and posted to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 17th June 1918. He was killed in action, 25th August 1918, aged 19, whilst serving in the line near Oppy, France.
