Born at Liverpool. Son of Richard and Mary Devereux, of 59, Anderson Street, Liverpool. He was a Billiard Maker prior to enlisting into the 2/6th Battalion Liverpool Regiment, 12th December 1915, at Liverpool. He went to France 14th February 1917. He was admitted to the 54th Casualty Clearing Station on the 26th August 1917 suffering from Malaria. He was transferred to the 24th General Hospital at Etaples, France, 13th September 1917. and then evacuated to England Hospital Ship Ville De Liege, 28th September 1917. He returned to France 27th March 1918 and was transferred to the 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 29th March 1918 and them posted to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 17th June 1918. He suffered gunshot wounds to his back and abdomen 25th August 1918 and died of wounds 27th August 1918, aged 22.
